10 Simple Ways to Lose Weight and Feel Healthier



Do you feel like you want to live healthier and lose a few extra pounds? Does the thought of joining a gym and committing to long workouts make you dizzy? Do you wish there were easy, simple ways to lose weight and feel healthier at the same time? Here are my 10 simple solutions to help one lose weight and regain health without much effort.


1)      Upon rising in the morning, only drink fresh spring or filtered water and nothing else. You may also drink an herbal tea. Then only eat when you start to feel hungry. Even better would be to just eat fruit in the morning. Fruit has lots of fiber, so it keeps you full, but does not add on the pounds. I also recommend taking a vitamin C supplement with your water in the morning as vitamin C is very important to everyone’s health and is not adequate in the foods we consume.  


2)      Go on a brisk 30 minute walk everyday first thing in the morning. Walking is a wonderful low impact exercise that will burn off excess calories. The key is to walk everyday. If you have difficulty walking in the beginning, you can start with just a 5 or 10 minute walk. As your body gets stronger, you can steadily increase your walk to 30 or 40 minutes or even longer. Walking will also brighten your mood since you are getting fresh air and sunlight, which are both important to a healthy lifestyle.

3)      Try eating a new superfood once a week. Superfoods, like chlorella, goji berries, and maca, offer the top nutrition of all foods and do not add weight to one’s body. So, I suggest trying one new superfood a week, go online to find recipes of how to prepare this superfood in fun and interesting ways. If you like it, keep eating it, if you don’t like it, then move on to a new superfood.

4)      Drink fruit and vegetables juices and green smoothies throughout the day instead of sodas, bottled drinks, and processed snackfoods. Everyone knows how processed snackfoods, sodas, and bottled drinks offer empty calories, are loaded with sugar, and lack any nutrition. Fresh juices and green smoothies are full of vitamins and minerals that our bodies crave. The lack of proper nutrition causes many of us to overeat the wrong foods, causing weight gain. By increasing our nutritional intake with fresh juices and green smoothies, our bodies feel more nourished and release excess weight. Watch the movie, “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead” for inspiration.

5)      Read a book, call or meet a friend, or learn a new hobby instead of watching TV. The act of watching TV is self limiting in many ways. Watching is very passive, teaching us not to take action or responsibility. And, watching TV is feeding your body with a lot of propaganda from the incessant commercials that are promoting many unhealthy products that you don’t need to hear about. Simply turning off the TV and doing something else that is constructive will improve your health tremendously.

6)      Keep a positive outlook through meditation, prayer, and self affirmation. Without a positive viewpoint, nothing good will happen. So, by choosing to have a happy, positive view, everything you do will create a better you.

7)      Associate yourself only with positive minded people. We may not realize it on a daily basis, but it is our feedback from people around us that has a lot to do with who we are. So, if you are constantly around people telling you negative things about yourself, you will feel hurt and may seek to alleviate this negativity and lack of love by eating the wrong foods. Conversely, when we talk only with positive minded people who offer only positive feedback, we feel free to live healthy. This association tip includes family members and friends. So, if a friend or family member is too hard on you, at least ask them to stop, and if they don’t, you can choose to see them less or not at all. It can be very helpful to join a local meetup group that is positive about losing weight, creating a healthier lifestyle, or just does fun things together that does not involve food.

8)      Replace stressful situations with fun activities as much as you can. There are many ways we feel stress everyday and high levels of stress will drive many people to seek solace by overeating comfort foods. So, by reducing our levels of stress and by spending more time doing things that we enjoy, we will feel happier and have less need to gorge ourselves in biscuits and gravy and the like. Your primary motive for the day is to do what makes you happy and is fun for you. So whatever it is, whether flying a kite, jumping rope, going with your friends to the mall, watching movies, playing basketball, solving puzzles, and so on, the more you have fun, the more the pounds will disappear. 

9)      Replace one driving trip with walking, bicycling, or through mass transit use. Driving a car is an incredibly sedentary activity and pollutes the planet too. First, try to replace a short distance drive that you make, say to the mailbox a few blocks away. As you gain confidence, you can replace longer distance drives with bicycling or riding the bus or light rail to your destination. You will find that the increased activity is invigorating and seeing the world more helps you stay connected to people.

10)  Reach for an apple, banana, or other raw food for a snack instead of consuming a processed snack food or soda. Processed snackfoods and sodas offer no health benefits and only pack on the pounds, yes, even so called diet sodas, which are more toxic than sugar sodas and equally create weight gain. Highly nutritious raw foods like apples, bananas, strawberries, carrots, celery, and nuts make for much healthier snackfoods since they are loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and water to keep one hydrated.

So, here are the 10 simple ways to lose weight. And please remember to stay focused on feeling positive and only take on what you feel comfortable with day to day. Making major changes to one’s lifestyle and habits takes time and effort. These simple tips offer a good beginning to a healthier lifestyle that you can start today. By adopting one, several, or all of these tips, you will be on your way to losing unneeded weight and creating a healthier you!
